But, when Paul exhorted us to “rejoice always,” he didn’t mean that we should be constantly laughing and smiling. He didn’t mean that we should say “goody-goody” when a loved one dies. He didn’t mean that we should cackle or laugh when someone criticizes us. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us that there is not only a time to laugh but also a time to cry.
